What Is Home Physiotherapy?

Home physiotherapy means your assessment and treatment happen at your address rather than at our clinic on Bukit Timah Road. The physiotherapist who visits you is the same AHPC-registered clinician you'd see in-clinic, running the same clinical reasoning process: history taking, physical assessment, hands-on treatment where appropriate, and a home exercise programme you can practise between sessions.

The difference isn't the standard of care — it's where that care happens, and what that location lets us see. A physiotherapist in your home can watch you get in and out of your actual bed, use your actual stairs, and sit in your actual chair at the dining table. That's information a clinic gym simply can't give us, and for certain conditions — especially in the weeks after surgery, or when mobility itself is the problem — it changes what we're able to recommend.

Who Home Physiotherapy Is For

Home visits work well when travel itself is part of the clinical problem, or when your recovery depends on your specific environment. They're not automatically the right fit for every condition — being upfront about that is part of giving you a treatment plan that actually works.

Home physiotherapy is usually a good fit if you're:

  • In the early weeks after surgery — hip or knee replacement, ACL reconstruction, spinal surgery — when even a short car ride is genuinely difficult
  • Managing reduced mobility, balance concerns, or a fall risk, where practising on your own stairs and furniture matters more than a clinic gym
  • Caring for an elderly parent or family member who finds clinic visits disorientating or physically taxing
  • Dealing with acute pain — a locked back, a severe flare-up — where the trip to us would set you back before you've even started
  • A busy professional who can get more consistent, higher-quality sessions by removing a commute from the equation entirely

A clinic visit may serve you better if:

  • Your condition needs equipment we can't transport — for example, Shockwave Therapy for chronic tendon conditions relies on a clinic-based machine
  • You're fully mobile and comfortable travelling, in which case a clinic session is typically better value for the same clinical content
  • You want access to a wider gym setup for higher-load strength and conditioning work as you progress later in rehab

Many patients use both — starting with home visits while mobility is limited, then transitioning to clinic sessions once travel is manageable. We'll tell you honestly which stage you're at.

Conditions We Treat at Home

Home physiotherapy suits most musculoskeletal conditions we see in-clinic. A few of the most common reasons patients ask us for a home visit:

Lower Back Pain

Including post-injury and post-operative back pain, where working within your actual living space — how you get out of bed, how you sit at your desk — shapes the plan. Learn more →

Knee Pain & Post-Surgical Knees

Total knee replacement and ACL recovery both benefit from early, consistent mobilisation — home visits keep sessions frequent when travel isn't realistic yet. Learn more →

Hip Pain & Post-Surgical Hips

After a hip replacement, we can practise the exact stair climb, bed transfer, and chair height you'll use every day, not a generic version of them. Learn more →

Shoulder Pain

Mobility work for frozen shoulder or rotator cuff issues, guided in the same space where you'll be reaching for cupboards and getting dressed. Learn more →

Neck Pain

Often tied to your desk or sleeping setup — a home visit lets us assess and adjust the actual chair, monitor height, or pillow involved. Learn more →

Ankle & Foot Pain

Including post-fracture rehabilitation, where reduced weight-bearing makes travel to a clinic genuinely impractical in the early stages. Learn more →

What to Expect From a Home Visit

Home sessions follow the same clinical structure as our in-clinic appointments, adapted to your space.

1

Get in touch

Message us with a brief description of your condition. We'll confirm whether home physiotherapy suits your situation and arrange a time — usually within 24 to 48 hours.

2

Assessment at your address

Your physiotherapist takes a full history, examines your range of motion, strength and movement patterns, and looks at the specific parts of your home relevant to your recovery — stairs, your bed, your usual chair.

3

Treatment and a plan you can follow

Hands-on treatment where it's indicated, plus a home exercise programme built around the furniture and space you actually have — not a generic sheet that assumes a gym.

4

Ongoing sessions and review

We reassess regularly and adjust the plan as your strength and mobility change, and we'll tell you directly if or when a transition to clinic-based care makes clinical sense.

What's Included in a Home Physiotherapy Session

Every 45-minute session covers the full clinical process — there's no stripped-down "home version" of the assessment.

  • Patient interview — your history, current concerns, and recovery goals
  • Physical assessment — range of motion, strength, flexibility, and pain mapping
  • A treatment plan built for your space — including practical guidance on stairs, beds, and everyday transfers
  • Therapeutic exercise — prescribed using the equipment and furniture you have on hand
  • Manual therapy — joint mobilisation and soft tissue work where clinically appropriate
  • Dry needling — included in your session fee where clinically indicated; see our Dry Needling page for details
  • TENS/IFT (electrotherapy) — included in your session fee where clinically indicated, to help manage pain and support your recovery

Fees & Payment

Home visits carry a premium over clinic sessions to account for travel time — the clinical content is identical.

Home Physiotherapy — 45 minutes
$320

Dry needling and TENS/IFT are included in this fee where clinically indicated — there's no separate add-on charge.

Final pricing can vary slightly by location within Singapore. See our full Fees page for session comparisons against our clinic rates, or message us on WhatsApp for a quote specific to your address.

Payment & Insurance

We accept payment by PayNow. See our Insurance Partners page for current direct billing arrangements, or check with your provider directly — coverage for home-based physiotherapy varies by policy, and Medisave cannot currently be used for outpatient physiotherapy in Singapore.

Coverage Area & Booking

We visit patients islandwide across Singapore. If you're closer to Bukit Timah, you may also want to compare a clinic session at our practice — 557 Bukit Timah Road, Crown Centre — where the same physiotherapists treat you with full access to in-clinic equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a doctor's referral for home physiotherapy in Singapore? +

No — physiotherapists in Singapore are primary contact practitioners, so you can book directly with us. If you intend to claim the cost through private health insurance, some providers require a referral memo from a GP or specialist before approving reimbursement, so it's worth checking your specific policy first.

What equipment or space do I need to provide? +

Very little. Our physiotherapists bring the tools they need — resistance bands, assessment equipment, sterile needles if dry needling is indicated. We typically ask for a clear, well-lit space roughly the size of a yoga mat, and a sturdy chair or your bed available for certain assessments.

How much does home physiotherapy cost compared to a clinic visit? +

Home sessions are $320 for 45 minutes, a premium over our clinic rate that reflects the physiotherapist's travel time. The clinical content — assessment, treatment, and programming — is the same either way. See our Fees page for a full comparison.

Can I use insurance or Medisave for home-based sessions? +

Medisave cannot currently be used for private outpatient physiotherapy in Singapore. Many private integrated shield plans and corporate insurance policies do cover physiotherapy, though coverage for home-based visits specifically varies by provider — it's worth confirming with your insurer directly. See our Insurance Partners page for current direct billing arrangements.

How many sessions will I need? +

Most patients notice measurable improvement within 3 to 5 sessions, though this depends heavily on the condition. An acute muscle strain typically resolves faster than post-surgical or long-standing rehabilitation, which needs a more structured programme over several weeks. We reassess regularly so the frequency stays aligned with your progress.

Is home physiotherapy suitable for elderly patients with other health conditions? +

Yes, and it's often a better setting for this group specifically, since we can monitor a patient in the environment where they're most likely to face daily challenges. Our physiotherapists are experienced working alongside other health conditions and calibrate session intensity accordingly — though for complex or unstable medical situations, we'll always coordinate with your other healthcare providers first.

What if my condition later needs equipment only available at the clinic? +

We'll tell you directly. If your recovery reaches a point where a modality like Shockwave Therapy becomes appropriate, or you're ready for heavier gym-based strength work, we'll recommend transitioning to clinic sessions — often alongside continued home visits for the functional side of your programme.

Is dry needling or TENS/IFT included, or are they charged separately? +

Both are included in your session fee where clinically indicated — there's no separate add-on charge. Our physiotherapists bring sterile, single-use needles and portable TENS/IFT equipment, so either can be delivered at home to the same standard as in-clinic, as part of the same 45-minute consultation. See our Dry Needling page for more on what dry needling involves.

Ready to Start, or Still Deciding?

Tell us a bit about your condition and we'll let you know honestly whether home physiotherapy is the right fit — no pressure either way.
